Running Log for January 2010 ---------------------------- Wed 01/20 45 easy. First run with my calculated zone of 70-80%. I found I had to run pretty slow to stay within that zone. Tomorrow I'll drink more water and see if it makes a difference. Mon 01/18 Time trial. Ran several repeats up a long hill at Brushy Creek Park to try to find my Max HR. I got as high as 165 but I think that's only 90% so I'm going to use 183 as my MHR and create my zones from there. I don't think I'm in good enough shape yet to push all the way up to 100% so I have to speculate a bit. The new zones mean I'll be slowing down quite a bit on my easy runs (zone3 - 70-80%) but that will be easier on my hips and back. Sun 01/17 45 min easy. I do not yet have a MHR for this new HRM, but I wanted to at least see what an average easy run would be. On this run I ran at a very consistent 148 BPM which I'm betting is about 75%. I felt great this morning, slept good last night and it was good to get out early. Nice and cool, no rain. Sat 01/16 75 min long. First run with my new HRM, avg BPM 143 which I think is a low 70%, planning to get a good MHR Monday. I felt good on this birthday morning, nice cool weather after several days of rain. Thu 01/14 45 min easy. Rainy afternoon run working from home, felt great. Getting ready to start a 4-day birthday weekend, looking forward to some extra running time and my new HRM. Tue 01/12 45 min easy. This was a really good morning run. Starting to feel better after the holiday slump. Sun 01/10 35 min easy. Wonderful run today. Temps got back up to the 40's and I went out around 4 pm, felt very relaxed and my pace was good, legs felt strong. This has been a very light week but at least I got the first week of the year done. Will ramp up next week. Fri 01/08 40 min mileage. Another really cold run, strong winds. I felt like I was jumping into a cold pool at first and the winds made for hard work, felt better at the 30 min mark. I probably should dress better for the cold, not just shirt and shorts. Thu 01/07 35 min easy. We had a big cold front come in with high winds. Got out at lunch and it was not bad. The high winds made me work a little harder but I dressed normally, did not feel a need for tights. First week is going good so far, starting easy. Tue 01/05 35 min easy. Starting out my first week of the year with a light run. I know my last couple of weeks of the year were a little patchy so I think it's better to build back up slowly. It was cold this morning but getting warmer as I ran and I felt really good, decent pace. Sat 01/02 60 min long. First run of the year! Met JimC at Brushy Creek Lake Park for our usual Saturday run. He is recovering from an ankle injury and I missed a week or so due to the holidays so we were both doing a lighter run. The weather was frosty when we started out but it warmed up a bit and felt pretty good.
